October 2022. That’s the last time I made a post.
I was so excited when I began my blogging journey. I had the best intentions to keep up with it. I swore I was going to write multiple times a week. I swore I was going to step my photography game and I was going to give my readers—all ten of them—something worth visiting when they received the notification that their favorite blogger made a new post.
Instead life took hold and while I continued to write in my journals and on random pieces of paper, I got sidetracked with school and kids and work and rounding out my thirties while entering my forties. R. started driving, turned 18, graduated high school and began his new life. J. entered high school, began to learn a trade, has made me contemplate my very own existence every single time her mouth opens and I come out as she rounds the corner of 16. I lost my mother. I started my big individualized study/project that I will work on for my remaining time in school —21 more academic weeks. That’s it. 21. And I graduated with my Associate’s Degree and went full steam ahead on to my Bachelor’s and here I am, officially a senior taking a career prep class that is needed as part of graduation requirement with an assignment to create a blog or social media account to showcase some of our work.
Well…shit. As I began looking around for a media platform that I might want to utilize when I remembered an old friend of mine, Inside Gigi’s World. I logged on and began looking over some old blog posts. I had a few laughs, cringed a little. I seen for one of the first times in a long time how much my writing style has changed even from a few short years ago and I decided, why not dust of the old blog instead of creating a new one. It’s a nice way to see where I started, where I am now and hopefully where I am going.
I know, there is a whole chunk of time that’s missing. Maybe if you’re lucky, I’ll fill some of that in as I go along. But in the good faith of honesty and being transparent, I also might not.
I hope to possibly write a book someday, so how much so I share? I have also learned if my work is previously published (even privately, on my blog) that publishing firms won’t want to pick it up. I also fear my intellectual property will somehow land into the hands of someone who plans to use it for something much more sinister than I do and I don’t want to chance that either.
So now I have to decide what to do with my old blog? Do I go back and edit what I once wrote? Do I keep it as proof that I have grown as a writer? You see, the other point of sharing our work on blogs and social media is to share to our LinkedIn account as an effort to showcase who we are while hopefully increasing our chances of employment? But what I find myself asking a whole lot lately is, who is going to want to employ a 40-year-old, who loves to swear and writes about topics that some people might be a bit uptight about?
So, as I try to navigate how to best utilize my blog and the final leg of this part of my educational journey, I ask that you be a bit patient with me. Maybe stop by from time to time to say “Hi” and if nothing else, just keep reading.
Until next time!
