Oh, the first day of Fall.
I crave this day all year.
It is my favorite season, full of some of my most favorite colors and scents.
The deep hues of red, orange and purple, warm yellows.
Leaves changing.
Apple picking.
Pumpkin picking.
Halloween.
Magic.
The smell of the Earth
Fuzzy hoodies.
Kettle Corn and Candy Apples.
I feel my most centered in the Fall.
This morning I woke up and could feel a shift in the Earth. A vibration in my toes all the way to my soul.
I instantly have to refrain myself from putting marigolds and chrysanthemums in my hair. But why am I refraining?
Fall is the fastest season after all. And I will only see so many Falls in my lifetime.
Today, on this first day of fall we watch “Hocus Pocus” and “The Bride of Boogedy”.
We eat sweet potatoes for breakfast or in J.’s case, starwberry shortcake.
On the first day of Fall I pull on my favorite pair of Bear Paws, not because I am a basic bitch but because I can no longer resist a soft pair of socks and anything fuzzy, especially when I put my feet into it.
I go into the Garden and play Grateful Dead’s “Black Muddy River” and smell the wet earth as I say a quiet thanks to Mother Nature for a good harvest as I cut, would could possibly be the last flowers of the season.

Then of course I put the flowers in a mason jar because is it really even fall if you don’t have mason jars all over the house?
I ask Mother Nature for another good harvest next year and I wish all of my perennials and self germinating flowers a good slumber as more and more frost will eventually put them into a deep sleep until next Spring and I mostly hope that as the year will rapidly start to close and the days will become shorter and shorter, I am still able to find peace and happiness in these ever changing and uncertain times.
Happy Fall Everyone!
